Democrat John Adler's record on veteran-related issues has landed him the endorsement of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' political action committee in his 3rd Congressional District contest against Republican Jon Runyan.

Adler, a freshman incumbent who serves on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, accepted the endorsement during a news conference with VFW leaders and other area veterans at Memorial Field on Church Street.  He said the VFW's support would be key politically in the fight to retain his seat representing the district and its more than 66,000 veterans.

Fifty-eight years after Army Cpl. Philip James Reed was knocked to the ground from the blast of an artillery round during the Korean War, tearing up his ankle, the Berkeley resident has been awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries.

Reed, who turns 80 on Saturday, received the military decoration Tuesday from Rep. John Adler, D-N.J., at a ceremony at the congressman's district office in Toms River.

The Congressman knows how hard the recession has been on middle-class families, seniors and small businesses.  When one out of ten Americans are out of work, the economy affects us all at a personal level. Washington needs to get out of the way and let the private sector get to work.   Congressman Adler voted for and introduced legislation to give the middle-class tax cuts.  He also sponsored legislation to help families in New Jersey struggling with their property taxes. This will put more money in the hands of families and businesses.

No  parent dreams of saddling their children with debt.  Yet, it seems this is the daily business of Washington. It’s time we get serious about curbing government fraud, waste and abuse and paying down our debt.

Congressman John Adler has the privilege of serving more than 66,000 veterans and the nation’s only tri-service Joint Base.  As the only New Jersey member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, he works in Washington each day to make sure that the men and women that wore our nation’s uniform receive every benefit and opportunity a grateful nation can offer.
