Fiscal Accountability

No  parent dreams of saddling their children with debt.  Yet, it seems this is the daily business of Washington. It’s time we get serious about curbing government fraud, waste and abuse and paying down our debt.

Cutting Federal Spending

Congress  must get out of the habit of spending money it does not have.  Congressman John Adler know it’s critical to cut federal spending.  The Congressman stood up to party leadership to oppose $1.1 trillion worth of spending that constituted a 12-percent increase from 2009 levels.

After  listening to local middle-class families, seniors and small businesses, he opposed expensive government measures like the wasteful bank bailout and healthcare reform.  Despite their expensive price tags neither measure could get banks back to lending or contain healthcare costs for families or small businesses.

Paying Down Our Debt

Congress must do more to pay down the out-of-control federal deficit. Congressman Adler advocated for federal pay-as-you-go law that helped previous Congresses balance the budget. He even has a plan to save taxpayer money by ending pension payments to corrupt public officials.

Congressman Adler is working hard to make sure our taxpayer dollars go where they are intended.  After our federal government made the wasteful bank bailout law, the Congressman called for more oversight over these funds.  He is making sure that every nickel paid back to the federal government goes towards paying down the debt.  The time for budget gimmicks are over.  Our nation can no longer finance programs it cannot afford.

Ethics

As our country deals with double-digit unemployment and a runaway federal deficit, the last thing we can afford is public corruption.  As a member of the State Senate, John Adler wrote the law the stripped corrupt officials of their pension.  Now, as a member of Congress, he’s working to pass the same commonsense legislation in Washington.

In  over a decade, the federal government paid over $573 million in pension payments to public officials convicted of felonies related to their position.  This is outrageous and unacceptable.  Congressman Adler introduced a tough, commonsense measure to strip public officials found guilty of corruption of their pensions and send them to jail. His bill can save taxpayer money and hold our public officials accountable.

Special  interests have too much control over Washington.  Our families, seniors and small businesses deserve a government that is open and transparent.  Our families and seniors play by the rules, and so should Congress.  Congressman Adler supports strict ethic rules and transparency in all forms of government.

Small Business

Small businesses are the back bone of our economy.  They account for nearly sixty percent of our private sector jobs and over the past 15 years created two-thirds of our economy’s new jobs.  Cutting unnecessary red-tape for our small businesses will aid in our economic recovery.

Congressman  Adler is working in a bipartisan way to make sure small businesses can spark private sector growth.  Too often, Washington uses a “one size fits all” approach when regulating business.  Congressman Adler has worked across the aisle to pass bills that remove onerous rules and regulations meant to police large corporations rather than our small business owners.

As the author of the red flags amendment, the Congressman wrote and passed legislation that will keep doctors’ offices and small businesses open because they will not pay the high costs of complying with federal trade rules.  Recently, he passed a small business exemption from strict and expensive mandates, which the Wall Street Journal said will “create jobs at to no cost to the taxpayer.”

Congressman Adler remains committed to working with our small businesses.  He regularly meets with his Small Business Advisory Board to find ways to get credit flowing, reduce businesses' taxes and limit regulations that inhibit economic growth.  He is rolling up his sleeves to make sure our small businesses can grow and our families have the opportunity to land a good-paying, private sector job.

The Economy

The Congressman knows how hard the recession has been on middle-class families, seniors and small businesses. When one out of ten Americans are out of work, the economy affects us all at a personal level.

Washington needs to get out of the way and let the private sector get to work.   Congressman Adler voted for and introduced legislation to give the middle-class tax cuts.  He also sponsored legislation to help families in New Jersey struggling with their property taxes. This will put more money in the hands of families and businesses.
The Congressman has visited businesses in his district and meets regularly with local business leaders to find out how the government can push financial institutions to lend and end needless bureaucracy that harms small business growth. Ideas and hard from the private sector will be what turns around our economy.  The Congressman is working to rein in reckless federal spending, so that it does not crowd out the private sector.

Finally, the Congressman is working to hold the Big Banks and greedy executives accountable for their reckless schemes. Wall Street got our country into this mess, and Congressman Adler is working to make sure they cannot do it again. The Congressman opposed the wasteful bank bailout and supports tough, commonsense measures that make sure Wall Street can no longer take risky gambles with our hard-earned money.

The United States And Israel

Congressman John Adler will always stand with Israel.  He understands that Israel has overcome natural and man-made obstacles to build a modern, tolerant, peaceful democracy with a vibrant economy.

Congressman Adler believes that the United States and Israel must continue working closely to strengthen and enhance their historic alliance and friendly relationship. The Congressman supports continued American foreign aid to Israel, believes in Israel's right to exist and self-defense, and is committed to support Israel in its efforts to advance peace and stability in the region. Congressman Adler supports a two-state solution that will allow Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace and prosperity.

Historic Alliance

Congressman Adler strongly supports the United States’ historic relationship with Israel that dates back to its creation in 1948. It's an alliance built on shared values of freedom, open democracy, and justice. The Congressman views Israel as the only true democracy in the Middle East and strongly supports Israel's right to exist as a sovereign state. As a member of Congress, he is committed to Israel’s national and economic security. No matter what political or foreign challenges arise, Congressman Adler will stay focused on keeping the bond between these two nations intact.

Foreign Aid to Israel

Congressman Adler voted for unprecedented foreign aid for Israel, which helps to ensure that the country will be able to maintain its military edge over the intolerant terrorist groups that try to harm its people. Congressman Adler will continue to support foreign aid packages that include both military assistance and funding for special projects, like the Israeli Iron Dome Missile Defense System, to Israel at historic levels. The Congressman is working to preserve Israel's role as America's closest ally in the Middle East.

Iran

Preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is a global concern and of critical importance to Israel and the United States. Congressman Adler has voted for tough economic sanctions and divestment of funds tied to Iran.  He understands that these sanctions must be used to convince Iran to abandon its pursuit of a nuclear program. While Israel holds open and fair elections, Iran jails and punishes those who seek a more honest government. The Congressman cosponsored the Comprehensive  Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act which imposes economic sanctions on companies that provide Iran with petroleum products.
