Education

As the father of four children, John Adler understands that the future of our state and our country depends on our children and their education. As the pace of globalization increases, our children will have to compete with the rest of the world for the best jobs. The No Child Left Behind Act was established to make sure that our public schools educate our children for the 21st century and give them the tools for success.

No Child Left Behind needs to be reformed. It has too many unfunded mandates, and it is one reason that property taxes have risen in the past decade. Furthermore, Congressman Adler understands that No Child Left Behind Act places too much emphasis on testing. He will work to overhaul the No Child Left Behind Act in a way that will benefits students, teachers, parents and the community.

John Adler is also focusing on improving math and science education in America. He understands that we need to be a nation of problem solvers to succeed in a global economy. In Congress, John Adler voted for the COMPETES Act, which will provide historic investments in science, technology, engineering and math school programs.

John Adler strongly supports legislation that will improve access and affordability to a higher education. He understands a college education is critical to achieve the American Dream. In Congress, he voted for stand-alone legislation that would provide additional resources to scholarships and grants for college students. After hearing from a local family who was forced to pay back their son’s private student loans after he tragically died, John introduced legislation that would increase transparency and accountability in the student loan arena. As a Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, he has strongly supported expanding opportunities for returning GIs, and he passed a resolution encouraging all colleges to make it easier for service members, veterans and their families to go to college.
